This past Thursday we were fortunate enough to hold a fundraiser at San Diego Yacht Club. It was a small intimate event, but we feel so thankful for the people that showed up and we are super happy to have part of the SDYC community behind us towards our goal of bringing home the Gold Medal at the 2020 Olympic Games. It was so great to meet everyone, chat, and more importantly share what we are doing.
Although there are only two of us on our boat sailing, it takes more than just the two of us to get to the finish line! The support that we received that evening makes this team work! We can’t thank everyone enough who attended! Go USA!!
After the fundraiser on Thursday, we woke up early to catch a flight to Oyster Bay, NY. This weekend was the Oakcliff Triple Crown Series #2. We anticipated to sail the FX, however a couple days before the event all the other FX teams pulled out of the regatta. Despite the news, we decided it was a great opportunity to try something new and get a lot of racing in against good competition as we start getting ready for our trials in December. So we rigged up a full rig 49er and sailed against all the boys! It would have been nice to be at least 50 lbs heavier, especially when it got breezy the first day, however after two days of racing we held our own and tied for 6th place out of nine 49ers sailing.
We switched back to the FX rig after racing today and plan to sail tomorrow and Tuesday here in Oyster Bay with the 49er boys before taking a short 2 day break. Next weekend, October 5-6, is the last Oakcliff Triple Crown Regatta in the series and for now it looks like there will be a couple FXs racing! Thank you to Francis George for taking all the photos this weekend!
