2019 Oceania Championships: Day 1

November 25th, 2019

Hello from Auckland, New Zealand!

We apologize for being so quiet on social media recently, however part of that is due to the fact that we have been putting our heads down and training hard the past couple weeks!

We arrived in New Zealand on November 11th and out of the past 14 days, we have sailed 11 of those days. The past two weeks have been a great opportunity to test the courses where our 2019 World Championships will be held the first week of December. This will be the first World Championships Anna and I will sail together and it also serves as the first Olympic Trials event for the 2020 Olympic Games. The weather has brought us a few days of rain, but overall it has been sunny, windy, and beautiful!

Today marks the first day of the 2019 Oceania Championships. This just happens to be a “Pre-Worlds” event and serves to be a great practice event before the real World Championships starting December 3rd.

Today we start racing at 2pm New Zealand time and live coverage can be viewed by clicking HERE! This link will lead you to a website called Sideline App where you will have to sign up and make an account using your email address. The Oceania Championships will be a three day event with free live broadcasting!

The World Championships will also have live coverage, however the coverage for the 2019 Worlds will only be available via a subscription fee. Our class manager, Ben Remocker, makes a valid point in that “While it is not traditional to have subscription based coverage for sailing, we do think it could be the best way forward. As the class who has pioneered live coverage since 2012, we have only been able to offer a single course area for up to three days of a championship. If the sailing public can get behind this type of comprehensive coverage, we have a chance to take a long term leap forward in what we can offer the passionate sailing fans globally.”

Sideline App’s World Championships package can be purchased for the early bird price of 9.95 Euros for all LIVE and On Demand. After November 30 the package is 14.95 euros. Just click HERE for more detailed information.

We are excited to do some racing with 50+ boats today and the forecast is for some good breeze. Today we are on Course C, 49erFX Yellow Fleet, at 2pm.

Wish us luck!
